Briarcrest Veterinary Clinic, Inc.

OUR STAFF:

Dr. Larry N. White, D.V.M.

As a child growing up in Texas City, Texas, Dr. White always had a love for animals and reptiles.  He attended college and veterinary medical school at Texas A&M University, graduating in 1972.  He returned to his home town and went to work at a small animal practice there.  Before long, he was hired by a doctor who owned a very busy practice in east Houston where he gained a lot of valuable experience.  Dr. White's dream was to have his own practice, and in the spring of 1977  that dream was realized when he opened Briarcrest Veterinary Clinic in West Houston.

Dr. White is known for his kindness and compassion for both people and their pets.  He treats a variety of animals including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, small mammals, and wildlife.  He has a special interest in reptiles, of which he has his own collection.  He also donates his time and expertise to many non-profit organizations.

Elaine Peterson Long

Elaine has loved animals as far back as she can remember.  In 1995 she began volunteering as a wildlife rehabilitator with  TWRC, Inc. caring for orphaned, injured and abandoned wildlife from the Houston area. Keeping current with her  State & Federal rehabilitation permits, wildlife still remain her passion. After leaving her position as shelter manager at TWRC, Elaine joined the team at Briarcret Veterinary Clinic, Inc. as clinic manager in April 2005. Keeping the clinic's day-to-day operations running smoothly in a busy one doctor practice is challenging and each day is  a new adventure! Dietary needs of pets is a subject that is something  Elaine is very comfortable and knowledgable to talk about with pet owners.  Please feel free to ask for any assistance or just to say "Hello."

Elaine and her husband, Gregg,  share  an  animal-friendly environment! The quantity of  wildlife she rehabilitates has dwindled, but  many domestic pets have found a safe haven in their West Houston home.   Feline friends are Sissy & Zeke.  Canine companions "Kodi" and "Kasey" are a pair of spoiled rescued Yorkshire Terriers.  Other Avian pets include Quaker Parakeets, Cockatiels, Diamond Doves, and many exotic finches. A White's Tree frog is the name sake after Dr. White, "Larry", who  gave me this frog years ago and "Leo" a male Ball Python.

Becky White

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Becky has loved and owned pets for as long as she can remember.  After selling real estate for years, she was ready for a change and decided to combine her love of animals with her career.  With plans to build a full service boarding kennel she attended grooming school and, to gain experience, she began grooming at Briarcrest Veterinary Clinic.  As she worked on plans for the boarding facility her grooming buisness grew and in time she decided not to build the kennel.  She has since moved into the management area of the clinic and is also married to Dr. White.

Becky has a heart for homeless animals and over the years has worked to find permanent homes for them.  She has many pets of her own and fosters many animals until they can be adopted by loving people.

Angela

Angela's ability in working with animals seems to come naturally.  She is one of those rare people that is so easy to work with.  She sees what needs to be done and does it and helps make Dr. White's job much easier.

Originally from Colombia, Angela has been in the United States for quite a few years.  She translates for our Spanish speaking clients.  She grew up around animals and presently owns a double yellow head Amazon parrot.  Angela also does home pet sitting where her knowledge in the veterinary field gives owner's peace of mind especially with pets that require fluids, insulin, or other special services.

Norma

Norma

Norma is a natural around animals.  She loves them and they love her.  She assists Dr. White and the technicians and is training to become a veterinary technician.  She has a son, Kevin, who helps her on weekends and weekdays after school.   She is from Colombia and is learning English.  We love Norma and feel blessed to have her working with us.  She and her son Kevin have one cat, a new kitten, at their home!

Sarah

Sarah has been working as a receptionist since November 2004.  During the Spring of 2007, Sarah began her training as a Veterinary Assistant.  The transition from the reception department to Vet Assistant has been an asset for Briarcrest. Sarah is currently attending San Jacinto College to finish her basics.  The she will apply to Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine.  She has always loved animals, especially birds.  Sarah owns several cats, dogs and reptiles.

Rhea

Rhea currently lives in Cypress with her husband of 2 years.    They are the owner of a 2-year old Australian Shepherd named Beleu.  She owns a White's tree frog and 4 aquatic turtles.  She has two recent additions to her animal family: the bearded dragons Una and Buddha, which she adopted from a client of the clinic.  She has been working at Briarcrest since October of 2005.  Growing up, Rhea spent a lot of time volunteering at the Houston Zoo Primate House.  She also grew up learning about many different reptile species, since her father was a former zookeeper at the Reptile and Bird House.  Her future aspiration is to be a zookeeper like her father.

Cindy

Cindy started coming to Briarcrest Veterinary Clinic at a very young age.  Her mother works at the nail salon a few doors down from the clinic and Cindy would come to visit weekdays in the summer and on weekends.  After a few years, she started helping at the receptionist desk and now she works part-time on weekends.  Cindy is bilingual, speaking English and Vietnamese.

Neftali

Since Neftali started working at Briarcrest Veterinary Clinic, we rest assured that all of our clients' pets and the clinic's pets are being taken care of well.  Always wearing a smile, Neftali is there every morning at 6am.  He is one of our most dependable and hard-working employees.  He enjoys helping animals in need.  Neftali is from Colombia and is a much appreciated part of our staff.

Diego

Diego is from Colombia and another one of our most valued and dependable employees.  You know when Diego arrives at the clinic because the birds start talking and singing and "Marley", our clinic dog (who is deaf), jumps up wagging her tail to greet him.  Animals know when someone loves them and you can sure see it when they're with him. He had training in the animal field in Colombia and also assists Dr. White.
